Course Overview

The Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) programme is a one-year pre-sea training course for graduates in Mechanical or Naval Architecture streams, leading to a career as a Marine Engineer on merchant ships. The course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India, and conducted at our well-equipped campus with “Ship in Campus” training facilities.

Eligibility Criteria

Category 1: Core Mechanical Engineering

BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum Marks: 50% in final year
  • Institution: AICTE approved institutes, IITs, or University Engineering Colleges
  • Benefit: Complete exemption from Part 'A' of MEO Class IV and Class II examinations
Category 2: Mechanical Engineering Streams

Full-time BE/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering variants:

  • Mechanical and Automation Engineering
  • Mechanical and Electronics Engineering
  • Mechanical and Automobile Engineering
  • Other Mechanical Engineering combinations

Requirements:

  • "Mechanical" must be the first/core subject
  • Minimum Marks: 50% in final year
  • Institution: AICTE approved institutes, IITs, or University Engineering Colleges
  • Examination: May get exemption from Mathematics and Applied Mechanics subjects
Category 3: Naval Architecture

Degree in Naval Architecture streams:

  • Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
  • Naval Architecture and Ship Building
  • Other Naval Architecture combinations

Requirements:

  • "Naval Architecture" must be the first/core subject
  • Minimum Marks: 50% in final year
  • Institution: AICTE approved institutes, IITs, or University Engineering Colleges
  • Examination: May get exemption from Mathematics and Applied Mechanics subjects
Essential Criteria
  • English Proficiency: Minimum 50% marks in 10th/12th standard or degree examination
  • Passport: Mandatory for maritime career
  • Age Limit: Maximum 28 years (General Category)
Medical Standards
  • Physical Fitness: Must be fit for sea service under standard maritime norms
  • Vision: Maximum (+/-) 2.5 with no color blindness
  • Height: Minimum 157 centimeters
  • Overall Health: Meeting merchant shipping medical examination standards
Age Relaxations
  • SC/ST Candidates: +5 years (Maximum 33 years)
  • OBC Candidates: +3 years (Maximum 31 years)
  • Women Candidates: Additional +2 years for each category
  • Island Residents: 5% marks relaxation for Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands ST candidates

Course Structure & Training

The GME course is a one-year residential program designed to bridge the gap between engineering graduates and marine industry requirements. The training focuses on both academic knowledge and shipboard practical skills. Cadets undergo:

  • Training on Full-Mission Engine Room Simulators
  • Hands-on experience in our advanced Ship-in-Campus setup
  • Practical sessions using marine workshops, tools, and machinery systems
  • Learning to troubleshoot engine faults, perform repairs, and carry out maintenance tasks
  • Development of soft skills, discipline, leadership, and maritime safety awareness
